Planning Permission Granted for Redevelopment of Meridian TV Studios site

Inland Homes, the specialist housebuilder and brownfield land developer, today announces that Southampton City Council's planning committee has resolved to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of the former Meridian TV Studios site, Summers Street, Southampton.

The site is well known in Southampton for its long connection with television broadcasting but was closed in 2008.  Since then the site has laid derelict, and previously two schemes that have been put forward have been unsuccessful.

The development, named Meridian Gardens, will provide 351 homes, comprising of 145 one bedroom homes, 174 two bedroom homes and 32 three bedroom homes.  The site will contain properties ranging in height from 2 storeys to 13 storeys. In addition to the residences, the site will have retail space, offices, an extension of the local park to the waterfront and a new waterfront walkway.

Commenting, Stephen Wicks, CEO, Inland Homes, said:

"We are delighted that Southampton City Council has resolved to grant planning permission for the Meridian TV Studios site.  This project has a Gross Development Value of approximately £70 million and will provide much needed homes for the Southampton community.  We believe that this decision is a reflection of Inland's expertise in planning, and development and are confident that this project will benefit the local community."

Notes to Editors:

Inland Homes identifies brownfield land in the South and South-East of England principally for residentially led development schemes.  The business then enhances the land value by obtaining planning permission, before building houses for private sale or selling consented land onto other developers.
